

EARLY VOTING BEGINS MONDAY, MAY 02, 2011 ELECTION DAY IS SATURDAY, MAY 14, 2011 The good news about voting in Austin is that it is easy and convenient. There are a few things you need to know before election day:
Acceptable documents are: 1. A driver’s license or personal identification card issued to you by the Department of Public Safety or a similar document issued to you by an agency of another state, even if the license or card has expired; 2. A form of identification containing your photograph that establishes your identity; 3. A birth certificate or other document confirming birth that is admissible in a court of law and establishes your identity; 4. United States citizenship papers issued to you; 5. A United States passport issued to you; 6. Official mail addressed to you, by name, from a governmental entity; 7. A copy of a current utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck, or other government document that shows your name and address; or 8. Any other form of identification prescribed by the secretary of state.
Early voting is when Texas voters are able to literally “vote early” – before election day. Early voting makes the process of voting more faster and more convenient. There are two ways to vote early – in person and by mail. Every registered voter can vote in person. For the May 14th election, early voting will begin on May 02, 2011 and end on May 10, 2011. If you are 65 years of age or older, disabled, or you will be out of town during the early voting period and on election day, you may be eligible to vote by mail. The first day of early voting for the MAY 14, 2011 election is Monday, May 02, 2011. The last day of early voting is Tuesday, May 10, 2011 Of course, election day is Saturday, May 14, 2011.
One of the benefits of early voting is that you can vote anywhere in the city. (On election day, you have to vote at your specific precinct.) Many people choose to vote early because there is a convenient early voting polling place near their office or inside their local supermarket.
If you are voting on election day, you need to go to your specific voting precinct. Voting precincts will be printed on your voter registration card, and locations will be printed in the newspaper before the election. To check your precinct location you can call the Travis County Clerk’s Office at (512) 854-9188
Polls are open from 7 AM to 7 PM on election day. If you are in line at the polls by 7 PM on election day, you will be allowed to vote.
To vote in the 2011 Austin City Council elections you must registration to vote by Thursday, April 14, 2011.
Travis county begins accepting applications to vote by mail on Tuesday, March 15, 2011. Final day to accept applications to vote by mail is Friday, May 06, 2011.
